Hi there!
Time to check in again!
Musa do Forro and THieny and Mikel are back at it again with 2 new singles from a forthcoming new, self-titled CD, "Volume 1"!
You can check them out on-line at YouTube.com, under Musa do forro.
Thieny will be doing an interview in Jangadeiro radio this afternoon in Fortaleza, and more radio and TV is coming up next week for both Thieny and Mikel.
I'll try and keep you up to date with what's happening.
We also should have more play dates in a short time to tell you about.
Right now our main task is auditioning new dancers for the show, and that will take place next week.
The new CD was recorded and produced at Tape-Music Studios in Fortaleza in the past 2 weeks.
Please leave any comments you may have about the new music...there's more coming in the future.
We hope you like the songs.

Saturday night
Hi there!
Just checking in again with the latest on the band.
We did our second gig at Master Beach on Praia do Futuro on May 30th and it went well with more people in attendance. Unfortunately my camera went on the fritz and no fotos!
We were to play another club on the outskirts of the city on Saturday night but we lost or accordion player the day before, as did the other band that was to play the same date.
This is fairly typical but I wish we could figure out a way to stop the musicians from holding us hostage.
Anyway we journey on and Thieny is lining up more work even as a write this.
Our planned visit to Curitiba is still in the works as well but will take longer to pull together by our agent there.
Trudy and Stephen, my clients from Canada, as well as Michael from Delta Airlines and his replacement, Brian, who just arrived were all at Trudy and Stephen's apartment building last night for a BBQ.
Their place overlooks the ocean from a couple of blocks away and has a roof-top pool. It was all very nice.
Israel has been after me all day to go back to the pool!
The three fotos are of Michael...then Brian and Stephen and then Thieny, Liane, our guitar player, and Israel.

Fotos from the Musa do Forro show on April 10th at Master Beach!
Hi there!
The gig at Master Beach on April 10th went pretty well. it was the first in a long time so there were some glitches but overall the owners enjoyed Thieny's show and so did the limited number of people who stayed through all 3 bands.
The next show is tentativbely scheduled for either May 1st or 2nd, depending on Thieny finding another band to play with us. It should not be a problem as there are literally thousands of bands.
This time it will not be a time when people are travelling as was the case on April 10th...Good Friday!
We just have to hope it's a sunny day for the beach and not a rainy one, but this is the height of the rainy season so........
I'll post some fotos for you shortly.
Tchau for now!

Last Minute Details Still Being Worked Out For Futuro
Hi there!
If there was any thought in our minds that getting ready for this gig on April 10th would be easy, those thoughts are far behind.
There's a lot of organizing to get around 20 people on stage at the same time.
We've already changed the band who shares the billing with us. They turned out to be VERY hard to work with!
As the opening on the 10th gets closer, I'll be putting up more comments as the details get worked out.

Hi there!
Banda Musa do Forro has been a dream of my wife Thieny's for many, many years, since she was a child really.
She grew up loving music but really began to get involved in her teens when she embraced a style called Axe (pronounced a-shay), originating in Salvador. Her heroine was Scheila Carvalho, a lead dancer with a group in Salvador called EU Chan.
Thieny began dancing professionally at 17 for some smaller bands in her area of Fortaleza.
When we met, Thieny was 21 and had a young son named Israel.
It would be 4 years until we began the oddysy that has become Musa do Forro (literally Beauty of Forro).
Over the past 8 months leading up to this Blog, we has assembled a number of band groups, recorded 3 CDs and played at several large clubs in the Fortaleza area.
We, Thieny and I, still feel we have been held back by the fact that in the beginning we have hired only "freelance" musicians that can leave at the drop of a hat, for literally no reason.
Every time we have to change a major component of the band such as a drummer, bass, guitar or keyboard player, we lose time because of the re-training we have to go through.
Needless to say, we have perservered and, with the current band...drummer, bass guitar, guitar, keyboard, percussion, accordion and horn section plus 3 singers...Thieny and two male vocalists, we are about to start a run at a barraca (ba-hack-a) in a beach area named Priaha do Futuro called Master Beach.
Our first tentative date there is April 10th.
We begin rehearsals there a month beforehand, March 10th.
We have come a long way from the bands first public performance at a big local club in Iracema called Armazen.
More later...
